What is PVC Flooring?
For those unfamiliar with plastic, PVC and Vinyl can be confusing terms. However, in the flooring industry, all you need to know is that PVC and Vinyl can be considered synonymous, referring to a type of plastic. Therefore, PVC Flooring is also known as Vinyl Flooring.
In the plastic flooring decoration industry, PVC Flooring typically comes in two main types. One type mimics the appearance of wood, stone, or tile and is presented in plank form, often referred to as Tile or Plank in English. The other type is rolled out directly onto the floor like a carpet and is known as Roll (for example, PVC Flooring Roll) or Sheet (for example, Vinyl Floor Sheet) in English. Because it resembles a carpet, some regions may directly refer to this type of rolled flooring as Carpet (for example, PVC Carpet) and Mat (for example, Vinyl Floor Mat). In some countries, a more general term like Covering is used (for example, PVC Floor Covering).
Linoleum, on the other hand, is a type of rolled flooring made from natural materials. Although this type of flooring is not made of plastic, it predates plastic flooring, and out of habit, people in certain regions may also use the term Linoleum to refer to rolled plastic flooring.
In some regions, people confuse Rubber and Plastic. In certain areas of Africa, what people refer to as a "Rubber Carpet" is actually PVC sheet flooring. In Malay, "TIKAR GETAH" translates to "rubber carpet," but in reality, products sold under the name "TIKAR GETAH" are actually PVC Flooring Rolls.
